Sustainable Community Strategy

The Redcar and Cleveland Partnership, with support from the Council, is developing the boroughs first Sustainable Community Strategy, to be published in June 2008, which will replace the current Community Strategy produced in 2004.

The Sustainable Community Strategy aims to 'enhance the quality of life of local communities and contribute to the achievement of sustainable development in the UK through action to improve the long term economic, social and environmental well-being of the area and its inhabitants'.

It is the principal document that sets out what the boroughs priorities are and details the key tasks to be delivered by the Council and its partners to achieve improvement in those priority areas.

An inclusive consultation process took place between 22nd October and 30 November 2007 to inform the priority outcomes and objectives of the new strategy, which were subsequently adopted in December 2007.

The full draft of the Sustainable Community Strategy has now been completed and was presented to the LSP Board on 28th March 2008 for comment. The strategy and delivery plan received support from Main Overview and Scrutiny on 21st April 2008 and it was then reviewed by the Councils Executive Management Team on 23rd April 2008. Following EMT, the strategy will now be amended and the key tasks from the soon to be adopted Community Safety Plan will be included. The strategy is expected to go to Cabinet on 10th June 2008 for adoption followed by the LSP Board on 20th June 2008.

The SCS will be published in 4 parts:
Part 1 - Strategy document
Part 2 - Delivery plan
Part 3 - LAA
Part 4 - PMF
