Sustainable Communities - Economy

The Employment Partnership aims to deliver a strategic vision for the economic well-being of the Borough and has established a theme group which involves a number of agencies, stakeholders and community representatives directly in this work. The group, chaired by Deb Leighton from Working Links, aim to deliver regeneration by: -

  • Stimulating a thriving economy based on our strengths of manufacturing services, primary industries and tourism as a means of generating social and economic growth
  • Tackling the barriers to employment
  • Matching the skills and abilities of local people to the needs of modern commerce
  • Creating a culture of lifelong learning.

The Partnership will deliver this agenda by:

  • Developing the renewable energy and recycling sector
  • Bringing contaminated / derelict land back in to use
  • Developing the tourist, sport and leisure industry
  • Developing the rural economy
  • Increasing access to employment opportunities
  • Developing the skills and knowledge of the workforce
